Acts 3: Thanksgiving

Welcome again once again to Grace Outpost.   This past week I cut my finger bad enough to warrant a trip to the Emergency Room, where they promptly Derma bonded my finger back together.   Needless to say this has made for a tough week of getting anything done, as I have not been able to use my index finger for much.   This past week was Thanksgiving and I hope that all of you had a great holiday.   At my house it didn’t feel much like a holiday as my wife had to work and we decided not to cook the traditional Thanksgiving meal.   Normally I have a swell of feelings of thankfulness for family and provision.   This year that didn’t happen, perhaps it is because we chose not to partake in the normal festivities.   However, in the midst of this I came across Acts 3, which reminded me that all I need is Jesus and he is at the center of everything I give thanks for.   So we are going to put the Romans study on hold for this week. As we turn to chap...

Romans 2:1-3:20

Welcome once again to Grace Outpost.   I am glad to have you join me here today.    We will be continuing in the series on the book of Romans, slowly making our way through it.   Today we will move a little bit faster than we have in previous weeks.   I began this series with a question I had been presented with a while ago, ‘if you could only have one book of the Bible for the rest of your life, what would it be?’   For me the answer is the book of Romans because it lays out the gospel.   Last week we saw Paul explain why the unbeliever is without excuse, as they are surrounded by proof of God’s existence.   Paul also explained what life looks like without God.   This week Paul turns that critical eye to those who aim to live a moral life.   Paul doesn’t let anyone off the hook here, we are all held to the same standard, no can be saved by merit, we all are sinners. Beginning in Chapter 2 Paul turns to the religious elite.   M...

Romans 1:18-32

Thanks for joining me once again here at Grace Outpost.   If you have questions about anything you read here, feel free to contact me crgalarneau@gmail.com.   Also if you have prayer concerns I would be thrilled to be included in praying alongside of you in those.   I am thrilled to be able to share from God’s word with you again today.    Perhaps you don’t think much about morality, where it comes from, or maybe you do think about it a great deal.   Either way when you do examine it you will eventually come down to a single question that has to be answered, ‘Is there absolute truth?’    Is there a universal standard of right and wrong that is beyond mans definition, is truth a constant; or is it relative to each person and there is no true right and wrong?   If one ops for relativism then there is no basis for right or wrong other than human whims, it then is a made up concept.   However, if one subscribes to absolute truth, then y...

Romans 1:9-10: Digging Deeper

Welcome to Grace Outpost and thanks for joining me here once again.   Last week we looked at Romans 1:1-17 and we saw how it introduces the book.   Paul introduces himself to the Roman church, which he had not visited, and he shares the basics of the Gospel right up front.   Before we continue forward I wanted to look a little deeper into Romans 1:9-10 and look at two things we can learn from Paul today.    9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. Romans 1:9-10 ESV The first thing I noticed about Paul is that he has a concerned spirit.   He says that he prays for them always, he has a burden on his heart for this group of believers whom he has never met.   Do you have a burden for a certain group of people or a particular plight?   Do you bring it to God in your p...
